Left alliance wins majority

KATHMANDU, Dec 9 : The left alliance of CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre won 25 parliamentary seats and its candidates are leading in 77 parliamentary constituencies.
According to the latest data provided by the Election Commission, the left alliance candidates are leading in most of the  37 parliamentary first-past-the-post constituencies  in 32 districts where the first phase of provincial and parliamentary elections was held on November 26 and  are leading even in majority of the constituencies in the  45 districts that went to the polls yesterday.
Although many other senior leaders are trailing behind, Nepali Congress young leader Gagan Thapa won the election from Kathmandu. Similarly, Prakash Man Singh also won the election defeating his nearest rival Rabindra Mishra of Sajha Bibeksheel. Similarly, prime minister Deuba is leading the counting in a wide margin.
It is almost certain that CPN-UML will emerge as a largest single party as it has already win 25 seats and leading two dozen others. A total of 1,663 candidates contested for parliamentary seats while 2,819 were in the fray for the provincial assembly seats in the historic elections.    —HIMALAYAN TIMES
