Live Cricket Score, India Vs Sri Lanka at Dharmsala: India have been bowled out for a paltry 112 runs in the first ODI against Sri Lanka in Dharamsala. Having won the toss, Sri Lanka chose to bowl first and, at the time, it seemed like a bad decision with pundits and India’s skipper Rohit Sharma thinking it is a “win-toss-bat-first” surface. But Perera was quickly proven right by the combination of Suranga Lakmal and Angelo Mathews who got the ball to move around as per their whim. The first wicket fell without a run on the board and Rohit went for two runs. Soon, India were in tatters at 29/7 with 20 overs gone. Only MS Dhoni was the set batsman left to steer India to possible safety. But that was still far away with India on the verge of bettering their previous lowest ODI total. However, he got support from Kuldeep Yadav at the other who notched 19 runs.

But the lion’s share of onus rested on Dhoni and his vastly experienced shoulders – and he made it count. Former India captain struck a fine 65 run knock before perishing in an attempt at increasing the tempo. It gives the Indian bowlers something to bowl at and defend but it looks a far cry. For Sri Lanka, Lakmal was the pick of the bowlers as he bowled 10 overs continuously and conceded just 13 runs for four wickets. He got the ball to move around as he wished and the batsmen had no clue how to react – something he had done back in the first Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Live Cricket Scores and Updates, India vs Sri Lanka, 1st ODI at Dharmsala:

1445 hrs IST: GONE! India are all out for 112 with MS Dhoni the last wicket to fall. The wicketkeeper-batsman perishes for 65 in an attempt at increasing the scoring rate. But just after cracking a boundary, he goes for another and only ends up slicing it for the man at sweeper cover. Tried to hit it too hard but doesn’t middle it.

1437 hrs IST: Chahal now with the job of surviving an over from Pradeep. And he navigates that successfully.

1433 hrs IST: SIX! Hundred up for India. Comes down the track, to the pitch of the ball, lovely follow through and it has gone into the second tier of the stadium. WHAT A SHOT! Next ball, dot. Once again, two steps down. SMACK! Unfortunately, it was travelling and no point running for a single there. But he closes the over with a boundary into the same region. The fielders had come in and Dhoni finds the boundary

1430 hrs IST: FIFTY! Dhoni brings up his fifty from 78 balls. Gets there with a boundary. What a knock this has been under pressure even while wickets have fallens at the other end. Talk about making the most of your experience

1429 hrs IST: Last time India were bowled out for under 100 was back in 2006 against South Africa when they were dismissed for 91. That has been breached for now as Dhoni sends the ball soaring over the boundary for a six – the first today.

1426 hrs IST: Yuzvendra Chahal is the last man in for India. They’re 87/9. Is a three digit score possible?

1423 hrs IST: GONE! India lose their ninth wicket as Bumrah is bowled. Dhoni, at the other end, is not happy with the shot. Misses the straight, flighted delivery by Pathirana and Dhoni loses another partner. Nothing shot. Comes down, clears the front foot but is nowhere near the pitch of the ball or in line. Misses the ball completely and is bowled.

1412 hrs IST: Bumrah is given out leg before off Pathirana. Its a fair delivery. Goes on the backfoot, hits the back pad, and there is no edge to it. On to ball tracking, the impact is outside, pitching outside off and the umpire has to change his decision

1401 hrs IST: On to MS Dhoni and Jasprit Bumrah then. More specifically on Dhoni to get a big score and take India forward.

1343 hrs IST: Big appeal for stumping on Kuldeep Yadav. Akila Dananjaya is the new bowler introduced. Spin to tackle for the Indian pairing now. Tossed up, it dipped and turned away to beat the edge. Goes upstairs. The backfoot seems to be on the line when the bails come off. Kuldeep is in trouble and the verdict is in – he’s OUT. Kuldeep’s resistance ends and Dananjaya strikes on his third ball. India go 70/8

1340 hrs IST: In the first 20 overs, India were 29/7. Since then, in five overs, India have added 40 runs without losing a wicket. Both Dhoni and Kuldeep Yadav accumulating the boundaries and getting the team out of the jail.

1331 hrs IST: Three boundaries in five balls – two by Kuldeep and one by Dhoni – and India have picked up some key runs to avoid registering the lowest score ever in ODIs and take the side beyond the 50-run mark as well. Still need plenty to do

1322 hrs IST: FOUR! Shot of the day by far. The most confident shot by an India player today. MS Dhoni steps out of the crease, takes the ball on the top and sends it screaming between cover and mid-off region for a four. Loud cheers greet the shot

1320 hrs IST: MS Dhoni is caught leg before. Big appeal. Umpire says not out. Sri Lanka opt to go for the review. There is no bat to it. The ball tracker says it had pitched in line, impact was in line but was hitting the top of stumps. Remains the call of the on-field umpire and Dhoni stays alive.

1310 hrs IST: A question worth pondering with Lakmal bowling his final over. Facing Kagiso Rabada in South Africa would be some challenge if this is any indication. What a show from him. Finishes with 10-4-13-4

1300 hrs IST: GONE! Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the seventh wicket to fall. Edged and taken. Little Bhuvi could do there. Lakmal is oozing confidence at the moment and it shows with the balls coming out of his hand. It is short of good length, kept coming back in, Bhuvi tried to defend but the ball held its line at the last moment to eke out an edge and falls into Dickwella’s gloves. India are 29/7

1251 hrs IST: GONE! India’s woes compound further as experienced face in Hardik Pandya walks back now. Dead silence in Dharamsala now. Tries to get his bat out of the way, too late in doing that, gets the edge and it falls to Mathews at first slip. Pradeep gets his second wicket. India are now 28/6

1250 hrs IST: Last time India went five down in under 20 runs was back in 1983 World Cup against Zimbabwe. Then Kapil Dev scored 175… Been a day of miserably stats for India.

1240 hrs IST: Nuwan Pradeep joins the wicket-taking party. Shreyas Iyer had been careful so far even with the wickets falling by the wayside at the other end. Doesn’t get anywhere near close to the pitch of the ball, doesn’t move his feet and chops it back on. Probably held up as he expected it to come quicker but this surface is not the quickest. India go five down and are 16/5 in the 14th over

1235 hrs IST: Drinks come in and Sri Lanka would enjoy them. They’ve earned the four wickets by pegging India back in the hole. need someone to steady things and for that, the focus shifts to MS Dhoni – the new man in.

1233 hrs IST: GONE! FOUR DOWN! Manish Pandey goes for two. Lakmal is on fire and Pandey is the latest victim. Indian batsmen absolutely clueless at the moment of how to counter the movement of the surface. Kept coming back into the right hander before straightening and Manish poked at it with a closed face of the bat to hand out a catch at first slip to Mathews. India’s troubles continue. India are 16/4

1225 hrs IST: Leading edge from Manish Pandey and it falls just ahead of the fielder. Gunathilaka moves forward and gets his hands underneath but it has fallen on the bounce. Lakmal shortens his length and got it to straighten, Manish tried to clip it but possibly held its line and gets a leading edge. Luckily for him and India, it doesn’t loop up

1220 hrs IST: Collection of unwanted records for India. Dinesh Karthik’s 18-ball duck earns him an unwanted milestone. For most balls faced and getting a duck in India. Beats Solkar (17 balls), WV Raman (16) and Ganguly (16). For India, they’ve set the record for the lowest score in the first powerplay – 11/3.

1211 hrs IST: This was coming. Dinesh Karthik is given out leg before. Walks before deciding he wants to review. The umpire informs him that the time is up and can’t review it anymore. Good call from Karthik not to review it at the word go for it was going on to hit the top of leg stump and would have been umpire’s call. India in serious trouble and Karthik’s misery has been put to rest. Walks for a duck from 18 balls

1207 hrs IST: BIG, BIG APPEAL! Mathews looks confident that this is leg before. He looks almost annoyed that it is not given. A look later confirms that it was going down the leg stump and the decision not to review it is a wise one. But worth pondering how Dinesh Karthik is being troubled at the moment as Lakmal and Mathews make the ball talk

1200 hrs IST: Lakmal is back in and he’s back in to bother Karthik. Starts off with another beauty. Good length delivery, jags back into the right hander. Loose from Karthik as he goes for an expansive drive and there is a big gap between bat and pad. Lucky for Karthik that it doesn’t hit the stumps

1153 hrs IST: Five overs bowled, four maidens, two runs scored and two wickets down – not a start you see often from an India side at home. Iyer finally gets the first boundary to give the capacity crowd something to cheer. Its bowled on the pads and Iyer calmly plays it to the right of the mid-wicket fielder and it goes coasting to the boundary ropes.

1150 hrs IST: New man in is Dinesh Karthik and he is welcomed with a delivery that cuts him in half. Beaten by the pace of Lakmal and follows it up by beating his outside edge. Way to make a new man in question things early on.

1147 hrs IST: Another big appeal, another not out by the umpire and another review. Looking for a caught behind on Rohit Sharma off Lakmal. Front on it looks like there is nothing on it and it has beaten him completely. But UltraEdge spots a spike as it goes past the bat and the umpire has to change his decision. What a start for Sri Lanka. India are 2/2 in 4.1 overs.

1140 hrs IST: Two overs in, both maidens and India are one wicket down. Rohit Sharma finally gets India off the mark with a double. And a gorgeous delivery to end the over. After three overs, India are 2/1. Shreyas Iyer is the new man in by the way. He is making his debut.

1135 hrs IST: Angelo Mathews comes in at the other end. And Mathews looks confident that he’s got Dhawan for a duck. Appeal for leg before on Dhawan and given not out by the on-field umpire. Sri Lanka go for the review. Fair delivery. No bat involved. Ball tracking says three reds. Going on to hit the middle stump. Big wicket and perfect start for Sri Lanka. Stunned silence in Dharamsala

1130 hrs IST: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan open for India. Suranga Lakmal has the ball first up and starts off beautifully to all but get Rohit there. Squares him up with the ball seaming away after pitching on middle stump. Lovely delivery

1120 hrs IST: The teams walk down to the middle for the national anthems. A packed HPCA Stadium greets them. An absolutely gorgeous venue this – even better with touch of winter to it and sun shining brightly. As always, the visiting team’s anthem first followed by the home team. Sri Lanka players form a huddle.

1105 hrs IST: Teams are in. Shikhar Dhawan looks to have brushed off the fever that kept him out of practice. Iyer gets the honour of coming in at no. 1. Dinesh Karthik gets the chance to show if he can replace Dhoni in the future (or now?). Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal the spinners with Jasprit Bumrah and newly married Bhuvneshwar Kumar the seamers. But, but no Ajinkya Rahane. That’s a tough call on him. Could have batted at number three in a small series this like. Who would take the number four spot between Karthik, Pandey and Dhoni? Tricky.

1100 hrs IST: TOSS: First time ODI captains in the middle – Rohit and Perera. Sri Lanka have won the toss and chosen to bowl first. “It looks like a good batting track and we want to chase on it. We want to do something special this series”. Rohit would have batted. “Good toss to lose. Would assist the bowlers early on and see how things go from there. Allows us the chance to assess the pitch. Captaincy is a great challenge and I have a great team with me. We’re playing with six batsmen, one all rounder, two spinners and two seamers.”

1055 hrs IST: Right. We’re ready to go. Final touches by the players. Toss coming up…

1051 hrs IST: The ball will come on to the bat nicely. New ball bowlers will enjoy the first hour and then it is for the batsmen. Little bit of moisture in the surface. Dew factor could make a difference even with the early start. Score 275 and defend for the win. Win early and bat first, is the word on the pitch from Sunil Gavaskar and Russel Arnold.

1040 hrs IST: Looks like Shreyas Iyer has been handed the cap to make his ODI debut. Dinesh Karthik set to come in at number four. Hardik Pandya would be eager to hit the ground running after missing the Tests against Sri Lanka.

1030 hrs IST: Hello and good morning for our live coverage of the opening ODI of this three match series between India and Sri Lanka. How the Sri Lankans would breathe better after what transpired in Delhi. And would hope it brings about a change in fortunes to somehow, just somehow, get a series win and close the year on a high. But it looks incredibly tough – even in the absence of Virat Kohli. But let’s see how things go in what has been an overkill of contests between these two in the second half of the year.
