Abhishek T.M. won the Open Under-15 category in The Hindu In School chess competition conducted in Kozhikode on Saturday. Abhinand C. bagged the second prize while Adhidev K.P. bagged the third prize. Rithunanadan R., Abhijith U., AbhinavM.P., Rahul Sreenivasan, Vysakh S. Murali, Sreedath Ram J. and Amal Karthik A. won consolation prizes in the category.
Jinan Jomon bagged the first prize in the Open Under 13 category while Abhiram Sudheesh won the second prize and Adarsh Pramod the third prize. Adwait Meethal, Vishwajith P., Vishnudevanandan Ravindran P., Jyothilal Krishna, Mihir A.K., Pranav Sajith and Ranjith Anand bagged consolation prizes in this category.
In the Open Under-11 category, the first prize was bagged by Abel M.S., while Ebi finished second. Karthik Krishna K.B. bagged the third prize. The consolation prizes were bagged by Gautham K.P., Abhishek K., Sidharth Damodar, Anandraj V.S., Abhayadev R.V.M., Arjun Krishna M. and Vishnu P.
Abhinav Raj bagged the first prize in the the Open Under-9 category while Arunoday K. bagged the second prize and Aadithya Nandakumar the third prize.
The consolation prizes were bagged by Karthik Krishna, Muhammed Najad Shahad, Vijay Krishna, Adhinan Fayaz N.K., Dhron, Adwaith Shibu and Sathyanath Aadityan.
The first prize in the Girls Under-15 category went to Nayan Megha K.A. while Vasundhara P. bagged the second prize (3.5-3). The consolation prizes in this category were bagged by Ansha Mariyam and Fathimathul Marwa.
Swaroopa E.T. bagged the first prize in the Girls Under-13 category while Aarshidha K. bagged the second prize. Theertha Muralee Mandhar and Jahnvi S. Kumar bagged the consolation prizes.
Jana Alinkal bagged the first prize in the Girls Under-11 category while Devipriya K.S. bagged the second prize. Malha and Anjana T.M. bagged consolation prizes in the category.
The first prize in the Girls Under-9 category went to Fadiya Rahman E., while Shamol bagged the second prize (5-4). Haripriya Nanadakumar and Hruthwika K.N. bagged the consolation prizes in the category.
Mehroof Raj, noted physician, who has been organising music therapy sessions, gave away the prizes. In his address, he urged the parents to teach their children “the language of the heart along with the language of the brain”.
“Thinking with the intellect and rationality is not enough to be a good human being. Children should experience hardships in life to a certain extent for it”, he said.
The chess competition, organised in association with the All Kozhikode Chess Association (AKCA), saw overwhelming participation by students from all the northern districts of Kerala. Noushad K.U. was the Chief Arbiter while Nelson Clement, Shaji and Latheef were the other Arbiters. The top three prizes for boys and top two prizes for girls included a trophy, certificate and cash prize while the consolation prizes included medals and certificates. Participation certificates were given to all contestants.
The event was presented by Thyrocare while Arrow Publications was the Knowledge Partner. Malabar Christian College was the regional sponsor while Regal Bakes, Gandhi Road, was the snacks partner.
