West Ham stopper Joe Hart dealt World Cup blow by manager David Moyes

DAVID MOYES says he won’t boost Joe Hart’s World Cup hopes by letting his leave West Ham next month.

England’s No.1 faces the nightmare scenario of being a spectator in Russia next summer.

Adrian is back between the sticks for the Hammers and will keep his place at home to Chelsea this lunchtime.

Gareth Southgate won’t pick players who aren’t regular club starters and Jack Butland and Jordan Pickford are battling to replace Hart for the Three Lions.

Hart, out of favour at parent club Manchester City, could try and get out of his Hammers loan deal next month but Moyes made it clear he would block such an attempt.

He said: “I don’t think we could work here without two top goalkeepers.

“I am aware that he is England’s first-choice goalkeeper and there is a World Cup next summer but, as West Ham’s manager, I am only interested in winning matches and doing what is right for this club”

“We have got cup games and an incredibly busy period. What if we got an injury? Who would we play? I would definitely want the two goalkeepers.”

Hart’s only choice therefore was to battle it out with Spain’s Adrian, who also has World Cup ambitions.

Moyes added: “I am aware that he is England’s first-choice goalkeeper and there is a World Cup next summer but, as West Ham’s manager, I am only interested in winning matches and doing what is right for this club.”

The Scot also has half an eye on bringing in new faces once the transfer window opens and reckons his track record is impressive.

But co-owner David Sullivan’s age restriction on new recruits has taken Moyes by surprise.

Sullivan said: “We have to take a look at the age of the players we’re signing. We will have to bring in two or three in January. They won’t be old journeymen, they will be young players. They won’t be 32.”

Moyes reacted: “Is that right? I brought in Sylvain Distin from Portsmouth, who was probably 32, after we sold Joleon Lescott to Manchester City, and Sylvain was brilliant for three or four years.

“From my point of view the manager should always have a say.”
