PATNA: City confectionery stores are gearing up for Christmas and have started selling a variety of cakes, doughnuts, cookies and muffins.
Designer fondant cakes and cupcakes with Christmas trees, stars, snowmen and Santa Claus images on them are quite popular among Patnaites. "During Christmas time, plum cakes with lots of dry fruits are also in demand," Ashok Mantani, the owner of a sweet shop on Boring Road said on Saturday.
Rupesh Kumar, another sweet shop owner on Boring Road, told this newspaper he sold customized cakes as well. "With X-mas and New Year just a few weeks away, customers have started placing orders for Christmas-themed cakes," he said.
According to tricenarian Reena Sinha, who makes iced cakes at home for occasions like weddings, birthdays and anniversaries, "Cakes are usually cut on special occasions. Therefore, I sit with my customers and try to understand and visualize what exactly they are looking for."
Sinha is quite busy these days as orders for special Christmas cakes have started pouring in and she hardly has time to breathe. Her plum cakes and dark chocolate cakes with red grapes have always been in demand during the festive season. "My cakes are priced at Rs 400 or Rs 500 depending on their size, ingredients and design," she said.
