
Govt junior colleges will receive `1 lakh grant for maintenance: Kadiyam Srihari

HYDERABAD: The message from deputy chief minister and education minister, who was speaking at the intermediate principals’ workshop here in city on Friday, was loud and clear. The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education(BIE) should become the best in the country, said Kadiyam Srihari said. Srihari also revealed that every government junior college from the next academic year will also receive `1 lakh grant for maintenance. This is going to increase the government expenditure by `4 crore, minister said.
He said that in the last two years, `275 crore has been sanctioned for infrastructure development of the intermediate colleges, construction of new buildings, classrooms, furniture, “In addition to this, `160 crore has been sanctioned to increase the salaries of lecturers and to regularise contract lecturers we brought in GO no 16. But some lecturers went to the court and sought this GO to be struck off, after which we doubled their salaries and their current pay is 37,000. We have also increased the pay scale of guest lecturers, and are promoting lecturers in government colleges as principals,” said the minister.
In a bid to improve results for competitive exams like EAMCET, NEET and JEE, 20 coaching centres are being set up in 10 districts. These centres will provide coaching for two months during with food, conveyance charges and infrastructure facilities for the centres would be taken care of by the government, Srihari assured.
