Christiansen’s side were leading 2-0 with only injury time left to play when Wiedwald misjudged the bounce of the ball from full-back Pawel Wszolek’s speculative punt into the box from 40 yards.
The German attempted to scramble the ball clear but it had crossed the line, which gave QPR hope in the dying minutes.
It could have proved costly as Rs winger Bright Osayi-Samuel broke into the box moments later but Wiedwald redeemed himself by pulling off an excellent stop.
Wiedwald’s blushes were further spared when Kemar Roofe grabbed his third goal of the game at the death to settle matters.
Okay, he made a mistake but it didn’t cost us the three points
Asked what he said to the keeper after the final whistle, Christiansen said: “Congratulations! What should I say? Thanks for saving two or three opportunities.
“Okay, he made a mistake but it didn’t cost us the three points.”
