Deontay Wilder storms ring to confront Luis Ortiz as Anthony Joshua fight takes back seat

DEONTAY WILDER was in attendance as Cuban veteran Luis Ortiz fought for the first time since failing a drugs test earlier this year.

Ortiz made light work of journeyman opponent Daniel Martz during a hastily-arranged 10-round bout in Flordia, downing the American in the second round.

With Martz still prone on the floor, the 38-year-old marched over towards Wilder – who was sat front row – and stared him down.

The exchange prompted a reaction from the Bronze Bomber, who marched into the ring and challenged Ortiz to fight.

The pair were due to meet earlier this year in an eagerly-anticipated clash for Wilder’s WBC heavyweight title.

But after Ortiz failed a drug test – the second of his career – it looked as though fight fans’ dreams were over.

Instead, King Kong was handed a fine by the WBC but escaped further punishment, allowing him to remain in the sanctioning body’s rankings to set up a fight with Wilder.

“When do you wanna fight me?” Wilder asked Ortiz.

“When are you ready?

“Stay by the phone, baby.

“I’ve been wanting you. You messed this up. I blessed you with the opportunity and you messed it up.”

Wilder had been expected to face Anthony Joshua early next year – but the Brit unified champion now looks set to take on Joseph Parker in March.

Earlier this month, boxing writer Steve Bunce claimed underrated Parker could prove dangerous for Joshua, cautioning the 28-year-old against looking past the talented Kiwi.
