Manipuri Literary Society celebrates foundation day

Imphal, December 08 2017: The 33rd Foundation Day of the Manipuri Literary Society, Imphal was celebrated at the Manipuri Hindi Parishad Hall, Old Assembly Road today .

The celebration was graced by Thokchom Satyabrata, MLA, Yaiskul A/C as the chief guest and Dr Athokpam Kholchandra, president, Manipuri Literary Society Imphal as the president .

As a part of the function, the Seram Mukta Award 2017 which included a citation, a shawl and cash was given to Laishram Birendrakumar .

The Koijam Kulachandra and Sanayaima Devi Novel Award which also included a citation, a shawl and cash was given to Laishram Bira-mangol .

Various books were also formally released as a part of the occasion.

These included Eigi Ei (poetry), written by Ullen Meitei, Ereida Nonglei (poetry) by Lanchenba Meitei, Khamnung Nonga Lambi Takpa (poetry) by Yaiskul Khwairakpa, Heirangkhongja (children literature in Meitei Mayek) by Meghachandra Heirang-khongjam and Moirangthem Inaobigi Radio Drama Neinaba (non-fiction) by Bijoykumar .

Speaking as the chief guest, Th Satyabrata conveyed his best wishes to the Manipuri Literary Society on its foundation day.

He added that writers play a crucial role in any society .

The chief guest also spoke on the importance of reading among the youth and how this helps in building a developed society.
