UAE- Be purposefully happy, say experts

(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Everyone wants to be happy, and be happy all the time. It is a basic and an undeniable human requirement. But happiness is a reality that must be enabled, through positive habits and thinking.

A happiness talks session in Dubai recently saw two powerful speakers share tools that help people adopt habits for becoming happier in life.

"The purpose of 'Happiness Talks' is to let people learn and take back some tools to adopt happy lifestyle and develop happy mindsets. Our speakers come with extensive experience and knowledge of happiness initiatives that have been tried and tested to enable happy mindset," said Rehan Naeem, organiser of the event and chief happiness enabler at the firm Touch Points.

Hessa Al Ghurair, chief human resource officer at Commercial Bank International, who is also now the brand ambassador for 'Happiness Talks - Women', a new initiative to empower women with happiness tips - was the first to take the stage.

Hessa started by telling people that: "The purpose of life..is a life of purpose". Focusing on the core need for the existence of purpose in our lives, in order to be happy, she stressed that we need to aim for meaningfulness by creating a higher purpose for sustainable happiness.

The drivers for purpose are vision, motivation and alignment, Hessa said, adding that organisations with a purpose have employees who are more engaged, satisfied and likely to stay on.

Backing up Hessa's purpose for happiness tips, Dr Andre Vermeulen, CEO and founder Neuro-Link shared how neuroscience confirms the importance of purpose for happiness. He awed the attendees with tips on improving driving factors that influence our happiness levels.

Brain fitness, stress, sleep, movement, attitude and food, he confirmed, are the drivers that science calls the most significant factors. However, just being aware of these will not increase happiness. The neuroscience of happiness is about rewiring the brain to build habits that improve the levels of these drivers, directly and positively influencing happiness.

Dr Vermeulen shared tips on improving each driver, but stressed on building a positive attitude and mindsets over and above that. Describing a mindset as "what the mind is set on", he stated that if you set your mind on negativity, you will have a negative mindset, but if you think positive using neuroscience tips, it will lead to a positive mindset and happiness.

"Every month, the topics are different and I always walk away with tools around why happiness is important and how to address challenges for happiness" said Samar Al Seedawi, who has been a regular attendee at all happiness talks since its inception.

"Happiness Talks is an initiative to spread happiness in the community and with its extended sessions targeting Women and Youth it is going to cover all areas of the community. At Happiness Talks, on a monthly basis we will share with you thought-provoking sessions by industry and topic experts," said Adnan Butt, Touch Points' managing director.

The Spreading Happiness Team will be celebrating Happiness Talks' anniversary event on December 16.
