Bathinda: A young woman hailing from Muktsar has joined the Royal Australian Air Force (Raaf) as a medical assistant. Manjit Kaur, 36, had joined Raaf on September 26 and became eligible to enter paramedical services of the organisation after completing mandatory training on Friday.
She would be performing the role of a paramedic for air evacuation and nursing services. Manjit, who has an experience of nearly six years in Australia, is elated over being the only Sikh woman in the paramedical services in Raaf.
"Inspired by stories of my maternal grandfather and maternal uncle Balkar Singh, who were in the Indian Army, I had an urge to serve in the air force in any capacity. That dream has come true after many years in faraway Australia. Hoping to join paramedical services in the air force, I did a two-year diploma in community services on reaching Australia. Then I pursued a diploma in paramedical science and a diploma in nursing from the Royal Air Force in New South Wales," Manjit said.
