GRAYSLAKE, IL -- Hindu Mandir of Lake County, Grayslake, IL performed devotionally their annual three-hour ‘Samoohika Shri Satya Narayana Vrath Katha Puja’ on December 3.
About 150 dedicated devotees from all over Lake County participated in the holy pooja. The “Samoohika” or community format of the Satya Narayana Puja which is a ritual prayer service dedicated to Lord Satya Narayana, a popular form of Lord Vishnu, involved multiple families with their relatives and friends praying collectively for the spiritual wellbeing of the entire community.
The temple not only provided all the puja samagris to the devotees but also made this auspicious prayer service very accessible and largely participatory. The main component of the prayer service was dedicated to the worship of Lord Satya Narayana and the meaning behind the stories of the puja drawn from the Skanda Purana.
Pt. Anil Joshi Ji narrated the importance of the name of this puja, “Samoohika Satya Narayana Vrath Katha” to all the devotees. He said that the purpose of Satya Narayan puja is to bring friends and families together and offer prayers and rituals that encourage universal happiness, unity and harmony among people.
