EastEnders legend to return and create havoc at Christmas?

COULD Jane Beale (Laurie Brett) return to the EastEnders cast for a Christmas comeback.

's (Jake Wood) reign of terror on the EastEnders cast has come to an abrupt end in the last week.

After teaming up with in their twisted plot to gentrify Albert Square in a revenge bid of the residents of Walford, Max saw himself unceremoniously turfed out by James when he no longer served a purpose.

With the entirety of the turning their backs on Max, the Branning bad boy finds himself penniless, friendless and desperately trying to blame someone else.

EastEnders spoilers have revealed that Max is so hellbent on chasing revenge, he's set to murder Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt), the one man he blames for his downward spiral.

And unfortunately for Max, things are set to get even worse for him over Christmas after an old feud looks set to rear its ugly head.

The big day itself doesn't look so bad for Max, with his last remaining friend Stacey Fowler (Lacey Turner) offering to take him for Christmas lunch, much to husband Martin's (James Bye) disdain.

Daughter (Lorna Fitzgerald) also thaws her icy attitude towards her father, agreeing to have Christmas dinner with him and the Fowlers.

But little do they realise the full extent of Max's crimes are set to be revealed – in the shape of Jane Beale's (Laurie Brett) voicemail.

Viewers will remember that Jane desperately left Stacey a voicemail, revealing the full extent of his crimes which saw his part in the death of Steven Beale (Aaron Sidwell).

However, Stacey never heard the message ad her phone was stolen, with the mobile currently being held by the Taylor family.

Last night's episode teased the big voicemail reveal after Riley Taylor (Tom Jacobs) was seen listening to the voicemail messages.

Stacey is set to find her phone, which results in a big Christmas Day showdown thanks to Jane's quick thinking.

While Laurie Brett, who plays Jane, hasn't been confirmed to return to the soap in person anytime soon, the door has been left very much open for the soap favourite.

Taking to Twitter after her departure from EastEnders was revealed, she told her fans: "So it's goodbye from me.

"Thanks to everyone who kept [my departure] a secret. Really chuffed we managed to keep my leaving so quiet for six months!"

With Max in yet more trouble, will we see Jane making her way back to Albert Square for real?

EastEnders continues Monday at 8pm on BBC One.
