AN AER Lingus flight from Amsterdam to Dublin has been forced to divert to Manchester after declaring a mid-air emergency.

The Aer Lingus flight from Amsterdam to Dublin declared an emergency

Flight EI603 declared an emergency at around 9.40am GMT, according to flight tracker website Flight Radar 24.

Officials said it diverted to Manchester Airport due to a medical incident.

The flight, which left Schiphol Airport in the Dutch capital at 8:53am GMT, was due to land at Dublin Airport at 10:15am GMT.

Twitter user @elfgagi wrote: "@AerLingus Amsterdam Dublin flight #EI603 squawking 7700 general emergency over England & descending rapidly."

Express.co.uk has contacted Aer Lingus for comment.

Figures released earlier this week revealed Aer Lingus' value soared after being bought by the International Airlines Group.

The Irish carrier was worth €2.2bn (£1.9bn) at the end of 2016, having been bought for €1.5bn (£1.3bn) in September 2015.

Finance experts said the airline's transatlantic business was behind the growth.

The airline recently announced plans to fly to Seattle and Philadelphia from Dublin next year.
