WB to set up innovation centre, aid animation academy: Mitra

Kolkata, Dec 9 (PTI) The West Bengal government is in the process of starting an innovation centre at Bantala IT complex near the metropolis, state finance and industry minister Amit Mitra said today.

Speaking at the 'Infocom 2017' here, Mitra said the innovation centre would be housed on 50,000 sq ft and is being completed now.

He said space would be made available for incubation of start-ups in areas like analytics, data science, animation and block chain.

The minister said an animation academy is also in the pipeline with DQ Entertainment setting it up.

Mitra touched upon the low attrition rate in the IT sector here, which is inducing companies like TCS, Cognizant and others to step up hiring.

According to him, IT exports from the state had touched Rs 15,000 crore in 2015-16.

The government had also set aside land measuring 27.73 acres in Rajarhat for fintech companies. PTI DC JM
