Umno Youth calls for a cross-ministry task force to study social agenda
KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth urged the government to form a cross-ministry task force to study the social agenda in the country.
Its Federal Territories Chief Datuk Mohd Razlan Mohamad Rafii said this is to ensure that modern day social problems can be eradicated.
"We are facing modern day conventional problems such as theft, drug abuse and others, and parents should be able to put the social agenda above all.
"We suggest that the president (Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak) form a cross-ministry task force and give them executive power in implementing the youth development agenda," Razlan said when debating the motion on religion at the 71st Umno General Assembly here today.
Citing Japan as an example, Razlan said that Malaysia should look to the country to incorporate the good values practised there.
"In Japan, the school syllabus incorporates the civic subject as well as the importance of cleanliness and the environment.
"We don't have that here in Malaysia, so this task force would be responsible for executing this issue," he said.
He also thanked Najib for announcing the formation of the Social Economy Research Institute (Seri) in the last Budget presentation.
Razlan said this institute will shape the youth agenda in years to come.
