Traffic cam memory lost, data on 3,000 violators lost

Staff Reporter, Indore

The red light violation detection (RLVD) system installed by city traffic police at busy Radisson square stopped working about 10 days ago. Which leads to a suspicion whether the storage device being stolen by someone.

Confirmed from the sources we came to know that senior officials immediately replaced the memory device and covered up the theft case to avoid legal barriers. Later, it was been told to the reporters that the camera stopped capturing images due some technical fault, now the camera has been fixed.

Around 500 motorists are caught with the help of RLVD system everyday for jumping traffic signals at Radisson Square. Officials who were engaged with maintenance and operation of RLVD system told that the system’s hard drive was installed in a server box near Malviya Petrol Pump.

It had stopped functioning on November 26. The system wasn’t working for five to six days due to some technical fault. Its storage device had records of about 3000 motorists who jumped the traffic signal or were riding two wheelers without wearing a helmet, they said. They further added, “Now this data is lost “.

However, ASP (traffic) Prashant Choubey said that fault was reported in the system’s hard-drive. “The device had developed a technical glitch due to which the system was not able to take record of violators,” he said.

“A new storage device has already been installed and the system’s functioning has been resumed,” he said. A new storage drive with a maximum capacity of one terabyte has been installed to take record.

“This will also allow us to store record of violators for at least two days,” they added. The sophisticated traffic signal monitoring system was introduced around two years ago to keep a real time tab on those jumping red light.

This system comprises RLVD and PTZ cameras. Once caught, the red light violator’s details are tracked through the interlinked official website of state transport department and e-challan is generated within a few seconds.
