The Higher Education Minister should come out from ‘virtual life’ to ‘real life’ and count how many unemployed youths are there in the State because of the Government’s policies in the past 14 years”, Leader of Opposition TS Singhdeo told reporters.
In a joint press conference, Singhdeo and former Member of Parliament, Karuna Shukla said it is big achievement of the 14 years in BJP rule in the state that the number of unemployed have increased to 19 lakh. This was admitted by the Government in the State Assembly, they said.
In the colleges of the state, almost in all the positions including that of Principal, half of the posts are vacant whereas all the 487 posts of Professors are vacant then what the Minister would do only by construction of college buildings, Singdeo said.
Regarding standard of education, the Congress leaders said none of the colleges in the State is among the top 100 colleges in the country. Even more disgraceful is the fact that the government has failed to promote research in higher education as not a single research of national or international standard was done in any of the state universities in past 14 years.
The much hyped skill development scheme is also a failure and the government has failed to provide employment to the trained youth, Singhdeo said.
As against 93264 trained youth only 27116 got the job and more that two third of them i.e. 66,000 are still lying idle, he said. Asserting that was a grim situation of unemployment in the state Singhdeo said in past three years more than 57,000 labourers migrated from the State in search of livelihood.
