Jaipur: Minister of state for external affairs V K Singh has advised Indians to head abroad for work legally in order to receive all assistance from the ministry in times of crises.

"Those crossing over to foreign lands illegally leave less scope for the government to help them in times of need," said Singh while responding to a question on Indians trapped in Middle East countries. Singh is in Jaipur as chief guest of a deemed university convocation.

Terming his entry into politics by a sheer accident, Singh, "I never planned to come into politics. I dedicatedly worked with social activist Anna Hazare. However, when Hazare movement culminated into a political party, I kept away from it."

Responding on the LeT terrorist and mastermind of Mumbai attacks Hafiz Saeed entering into Pakistan politics, Singh said, "It depends on Pakistan to decide whether they want to become a terror nation or a good nation."

He hailed social welfare schemes running by the Central government. Explaining the impact by giving an example, Singh said, "Central government initiatives are taken by the Indian government is bearing results. Jaipur city is now a much cleaner city as compared to how it was few years back," asserted Singh while referring about Swachch Bharat Abhiyan. He refused to comment on BJP polls in Gujarat.

To achieve gender equality, Singh encouraged male members to discuss this issue in their family and community to explore all the restrictions faced by women in their advancements and encourage their women folk to come forward and shoulder responsibilities in the public domain. "You have to understand in the family that only mother can make the difference, not the father," said Singh.

"The challenges today are many, but in building a new India, the youth has a very proactive role and is a major player - a big stakeholder - in the making of new India. Therefore, if the targets of eradication of poverty, health, education, and a higher level of life standards are to be achieved, it is only through the power of youth, which must rise to the challenge, he asserted."
