Hunt concerned by Students blunt attack

2017-12-09 15:58

Cape Town - Wits coach Gavin Hunt bemoaned his side's lack of goals in the Absa Premiership this season despite boasting some of the best attacking options in the league.

The reigning league champions have been in abysmal form, in defence of their title, and have scored only six goals in 12 games - as they languish at the bottom of the 16-team division.

This is an alarming statistic considering the fact the club employs the likes of James Keene, Gabadinho Mhango, Eleazar Rodgers and Egypt international Amr Gamal.

Gamal in particular, who arrived as a replacement for Phakamani Mahlambi (who joined Al Ahly in the off-season), has been tipped as a potential Lesley Manyathela award winner.

But his return of two goals in nine league starts has left Hunt stretching his head in disbelief.

"We are not scoring and it is affecting us badly. We have to work ourselves out of this situation," he told the Daily Sun.

"It’s crazy. I’m worried - everybody is worried.

"Where am I going to get a striker? It’s not like anyone is scoring goals in the Absa Premiership at the moment. But I’m thinking about it."
