Haveri: Haveri Bar Association office-bearers alleged that district government pleader, (DGP) G C Giriyappanavar, is seeking a bribe from plaintiff advocates. The advocates submitted a memorandum to law minister T B Jayachandra through deputy commissioner M V Venkatesh, seeking action against him, on Friday

In the memorandum, Bar Association members alleged that Giriyappanavar is working as a DGP since two years in the Haveri district court, but he is following delaying tactics during submitting a written statement and interim objections, in various cases.

"DGP Giriyappanavar is expecting bribes from plaintiff advocates, hence, he is following delaying tactics, unnecessarily, in submitting written statements and interim objections, if his demands are not fulfilled," alleged bar association members.

When contacted, deputy commissioner M V Venkatesh clarified that he received several complaints against the DGP, including from the Haveri Bar Association. "I will recommend to the government to take necessary action against him," he added.

"Some members of the Bar Association in Haveri are taking revenge against me by tarnishing my image, by accusing me of taking a bribe. I was one among others, who moved a no-confidence motion against the Bar Association president to remove him, so now they are taking revenge against me by making such baseless allegations," said DGP Giriyappanavar.
