CM K Chandrasekhar Rao inspects Kaleshwaram Irrigation project site on Thursday | Express

HYDERABAD: With works on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme progressing as expected, the government is hopeful of providing water to farmers — using two motor pumps — by June next year. The other five pump sets would become functional by December 2018. On his second day of visit to the erstwhile Karimnagar district, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao visited several work sites of the project including Medaram (Package 6) in Peddapalli district and Ramadugu (Package 8) in Karimnagar district, and held a brief review of package-8 at Medigadda.

The Chief Minister returned to Hyderabad on Friday and is expected to conduct a detailed review based on his field experiences on Satruday, at Pragathi Bhavan. Water from Medigadda will reach Yellampally via Annaram and Sundilla. From Yellampally, water will be sent to an underground surge pool on the outskirts of Medaram village through a 9.53 KM tunnel.

TS Transco chairman and managing director D Prabhakar Rao informed the CM that to pump water from underground surge pool to Medaram tank, seven pump sets having the capacity of 124.5 MW each were being set up. Since the terrain is hilly, a 400 MW sub-station has also been constructed underground.
The BHEL was entrusted with manufacturing of the pump sets. BHEL general manager Sundarajan informed Rao that of the seven pump sets two would be fixed by next June and the rest by December.

The Chief Minister wanted all the works to be done by next summer and keep everything ready to pump and lift water. Rao examined the 15 KM tunnel, 5.7 KM canal from Medaram to Ramadugu (Laxmipur). He visited pump house, surge pool, 400 KV sub-station at Laxmipur. Transco CMD Prabhakar Rao said that arrangements were made for the supply of 973 MW of power required to run seven pumps having the capacity of 129 MW to lift water from Laxmipur.

He instructed that water lifted from Medaram and Laxmipur be flown into the flood canal at 99th km. He wanted arrangements to be made to pump 2 TMC of water every day. The water should be drawn in large quantities from Godavari from the next monsoon, Rao directed the officials and said that one TMC should be supplied to SRSP and another one TMC to Mid Manair.Rao also visited NTPC-Telangana and reviewed the progress of the project during his visit to erstwhile Karimnagar district.

NTPC ED-Ramagundam DK Dubey and other senior officials from NTPC apprised Rao of the progress of works and major highlights of Telangana Super Thermal Power Project Stage-I (2x800 MW).
Expressing happiness, the CM appreciated NTPC team for its commendable job and hoped that the plant would come in record time besides adding that this project would be one of the excellent power plants in the country. “Going with the credibility and expertise with NTPC, I am sure that the plant will start power generation in a record time,” the Chief Minister said.
