A major tourism development plan is underway at a castle near the Scottish Borders.
As revealed, they are seen to have 500 static caravans and 50 touring caravan pitches and an entrance “hub” put in place at Thirlestane Castle, near Lauder. There are also plans to create new access route from the nearby A68 to the development by the Lauderdale Estates.
According to the consultation process and site credentials, the final scale of the project would be done.
For those who are interested in heritage tourism, this project, once completed would be an interesting place to visit. It is said that the history of Thirlestane Castle dates back to at least the 14th Century, when a large Border fort was built on the site to defend the approach to Edinburgh from the south. In 1590, the central part of the present castle was completed which was remodelled during the 1670s and then again around 1840s.
