Widespread cheer as Mysuru royal family gets heir

MYSURU: Mysoreans celebrated the birth of a baby in the Mysuru royal family after 64 years by distributing sweets, bursting crackers and offering special prayers. They also danced to the tune of drums in front of the Mysore Palace and K R Circle.With an emotional attachment to the royal family, residents were curious about the happenings as the baby was expected to Yaduveer Krishnadutta Chamaraja Wadiyar-Trishika Devi couple anytime in the first week of December.

As the news broke out at 9 pm on Wednesday, royal family members and relatives rushed to Bengaluru to be around the couple in the happy times. Palace staff, relatives and friends celebrated the arrival of the baby who will be the 28th descendant of the Mysore royal family in front of Mysore Palace since morning by bursting crackers and distributing Mysore Pak. The birth of baby boy has turned out to be the talk of the town.

Ursu mandali members offered special puja at Trineshwara Swamy Temple inside the palace. Thrilled with the good news, the palace employees are eager to receive the baby born in Punarvasu Nakshtra, Mithuna Rashi. Palace Board deputy director T S Subramanya, Ursu mandali office-bearers Subramanyaraje Urs, Nandeshraje Gowda, Ashwanath Nrayana Rajeurs, Sunil and others were present.Fans of Srikantadutta Narashimaraja Wadiyar distributed a quarter kg sugar packets with pictures of Sri Chamaraja Wadiyar, Sri Jayacahamaraja Wadiyar, Srikantadutta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, Yaduveer and Trishika.

The fans distributed 500 kg sugar to public and planned to scale up the celebrations when the mother and the baby return to Mysuru Palace. “I had heard from my grandfather that the palace staff distributed sugar and sweets to all households when Srikanatdutta Narashimaraja Wadiyar was born. Though I had not seen it, I wanted to celebrate it in the same fashion,” said a fan of the royal family.The royal family members, including Pramodhadevi Wadiyar,  Yaduveer’s biological parents — Swarup Anand Gopal Raj Urs and Tripura Sundari Devi — are at the Bengaluru hospital and thanked the staff and doctors of the hospital.
Yaduveer, who was adopted in 2013 and married in June 2016 to Trishika of Dungapur royal family, thanked the people for their good wishes.

Revanna, a resident of Ashokpuram, said they are happy as the curse of Alamelamma has ended and the royal family has a baby which will continue traditions and rich culture of the Wadiyars.“It is like a baby in my own family. I am delighted that there is good news in the royal family after a long time,” said Mubarak, a Tongawala.He recalled that they were given sugar near Agrahara Circle and also near Chamundipuram when Srikanatadutta Narashimraja Wadiyar was born.
