Gujarat goes to polls today

Stage is set for the first phase of polls in Gujarat today. Tight security arrangements have been made to prevent any untoward incidents. Over 1 lakh 74 thousand police personnel have been deployed.

The first phase of assembly elections in Gujarat is going to be held on 89 seats of Kutch, Saurashtra and South Gujarat today.

Over 2 crore 12 lakh voters will decide the fate of 977 candidates in this phase.
Meanwhile, campaigning for the second phase of assembly elections is underway in full swing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today accused Congress of wanting to prolong Ayodhya dispute case in Supreme Court.

Addressing a public rally in Kalol, Mr Modi asked why does a top Congress leader and bjp-rally NEWlawyer wants to prolong the Ayodhya Case when all stakeholders want an early solution.

On the other hand, addressing an election rally in Chhota Udaipur, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said party is going to win elections in Gujarat and no one can stop it.

He said Congress will bring a farm loan waiver policy within 10 days if it wins. Mr Gandhi accused BJP government in the state of snatching land from Adivasis, and not giving them any compensation.

The Congress leader is holding a series of meetings today.

Counting will be taken up on the 18th of this month.
