PATNA: A team of vigilance investigation bureau arrested Dulhin Bazaar circle officer (CO) Rakesh Kumar red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 25,000 from his office located inside the Dulhin Bazaar block office in Patna on Friday.
Vigilance DSP Maharaja Kanishk Kumar, who led the trap team, said that complainant Raju Kumar had lodged a written complaint against the CO last week after which vigilance bureau verified the his allegations and found them to be true on Wednesday following which the CO was arrested while accepting bribe money from Raju.
"Raju is the primary agriculture cooperative society (PACS) president of Singhara Kopa panchayat in Dulhin Bazaar and he had written letter to the circle officer to attach the PACS of neighbouring panchayat Narhi-Pirhi with his PACS for which the officer was demanding Rs 25000," the DSP said.
He said that PACS of Narhi-Pirhi panchayat was black listed by state government due to which paddy procurement from farmers of that panchayat would had been possible only it would had got attached with PACS of Singhara Kopa panchayat.
"For sending the recommendation letter of attaching one PACS with another to higher authorities, the bribe money was being demanded," the DSP said.
He said that Rakesh came into service after getting selected by Bihar Public Service Commission in years 2012 in the 48th batch.
He said the arrested officer is a native of village Babura under Barhara police station in Bhojpur district. Till Friday, the bureau had arrested altogether 87 accused in 80 different traps since January 2017.
