PATNA: Governor-cum-chancellor Satya Pal Malik on Friday said he had directed universities not to grant affiliation to any new college if it does not have a common room with attached toilet for girls.
Inaugurating a weeklong exhibition of rare documents at Patna University's (PU) central library as part of its centenary celebrations, Malik said, "Hundreds of girls suffer from diseases affecting the lower parts of their bodies because of the absence of proper and hygienic toilets. The existing universities and old colleges have been asked to ensure the availability of common rooms and washrooms for girl students."
The chancellor appreciated the efforts of PU in preserving old manuscripts and books and displaying them at the exhibition. He also released a book written by three teachers — Jayashri Mishra, Surendra Kumar and Jayadeo Mishra — on the university's history.
Earlier, PU vice-chancellor said the teachers, students and non-teaching staff had accepted the challenge posed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and were striving hard to take the university to the top. Pro-VC Dolly Sinha welcomed the guests.
Postmaster General (Northern region) Ashok Kumar and PU central library chief S R Padmadeo also spoke on the occasion. Registrar Rabindra Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
