An explosion took place in the western parts of Kabul city later this afternoon leaving several people dead or wounded, according to the security officials.
The incident took place in the vicinity of the 6th police district of the city in Sar-e-Kariz Bazaar located close to the residence of the second deputy chief executive of the unity government.
According the security officials, at least two people were killed and eight others were wounded in the explosion which was likely triggered due to an incident setting the gas cylinders on fire.
However, another security official in the 6th police district said at least seven people were killed and nine others were wounded.
The main cause of the explosion has not been ascertained so far but the ministry of interior had earlier said the blast has likely taken place due to malfunction in one of the gas cylinders and at least eight people were wounded in the explosion.
However, the eyewitnesses in the area had said the blast was likely triggered due to a magnetic bomb that set the vehicle carrying gas cylinders on fire.
Today’s incident took place amid ongoing efforts by the anti-government armed militant groups to carry out attacks in the key cities of the country including Kabul.
However, it is yet not clear if the militants had any links with today’s incident or not.
