22,100 to receive degrees at 12th Nalanda Open University convocation

PATNA: Altogether 22,100 students will receive degrees at the 12th annual convocation of Nalanda Open University (NOU) at Gyan Bhawan on December 26. Of the 29 gold medallists, 20 are girls.

The toppers of postgraduate (PG) courses, who will receive gold medals from governor-cum-chancellor Satya Pal Malik, include Sonam Kumari (economics), Dolly Kumari (geography), Vinita Kumari (Hindi), Kiran Kumari (history), Rajni Kant (Magahi), Kritika Mishra (political science), Sharha Shafaque (psychology), Amit Ravidas (sociology), Ekta Kumari (MJMC), Vishnu Priya (public administration), Jaiyant Jaiswal (rural development), Anshu Kumari (commerce), Ram Babu Varma (Bhojpuri), Madhulika Kumari (education), Bakhteyar Yahya and Mohammad Yahya Sayeed (Urdu), Puja Shree (chemistry), Abhishek Anand (botany), Parvati Prasad (zoology), Payel Bhadra (physics), Shani Sharma (mathematics), Shivani Roy (environmental science), Prinshu Kalyani (Sanskrit), Narayan Jha (Maithili), Soma Raj (English), Kumari Prity Bala (MCA) and Bhavna Rani (MLIS).


While Shishty (MSc mathematics) will be given the Sushree Brij Chandrika Gold Medal, Beauty Kumari (BSc mathematics) will get the Rajendra Prasad Singh Memorial Gold Medal for the best academic performance in both the years.


NOU registrar Dr S P Sinha on Friday said it was too early to disclose who the chief guest of the event would be. "We have approached some dignitaries, but their consent is still awaited. Students attending the convocation will have to get themselves registered and send the form to the academic section of the university with a demand draft of Rs 1,000 drawn in favour of NOU-Patna. They have to collect all the necessary items, including gowns, caps and security passes on the day of the convocation ceremony. Sporting convocation gowns will be mandatory for all the graduates attending the event," he said.


Altogether 16,000 students in PG courses and 6,100 in undergraduate courses will receive degrees. Of the total, 1,500 candidates are from other states.
