The travel guide has revealed the best places for people to visit in the world for 2018 in their annual round-up.
A surprising entry at number one was, in fact, the northern UK city of Newcastle, beating out other destinations such as Malawi, Malta and Cuba.
Valletta in Malta, coming in at number four, is European’s Capital of Culture for 2018 which makes it surprising to have lost out.
Instead, the Georgie city was the one to beat, according to Rough Guides.

Other great things about Newcastle included friendly Geordies
Rough Guides 2018 states that it is: “Newcastle’s time to shine.
“Next summer the city – along with neighbouring Gateshead – will host the Great Exhibition of the North, a two-month jamboree that will tell the story of Northern England and how its artists and innovators have helped shape the world we live in.
"Expect live music, performance art and insightful exhibitions at some wonderful venues.”
Other great things about Newcastle included friendly Geordies and being “friendly on the wallet”.
Many may not realise it was also the home to the very first Greggs, being named the ‘Greggs capital’ with 9.9 stores every 100,000 people.

It isn’t the only spot in the UK to make the top 10, with Wales also coming in at number 5 for it’s UNESCO World Heritage sites and great outdoors.
Some of the others in the list include the Civil Rights Trail in the US, visiting sites such as Martin Luther King’s birthplace and Woolworth's store in North Carolina where four black students sat in the “whites-only” seating area in the 60’s.
Russia is also on the list, who are hosting the World Cup in 2018, as well as Cuba which is continuing to grow in tourism.

Earlier this year, Lonely Planet also revealed their best countries in the world to travel in 2018, with some more surprising entries.
Whilst the number one country to travel to was Chile in South America, South Korea came in at a surprising second place.
Popular designation Portugal was number three, which is also one of the safest countries in Europe for 2018.
Sadly, unlike the Rough Guides destination recommendation, nowhere in the UK made the list.
