Liverpool news: Klopp must make two January signings, Van Dijk will be one - Ferdinand

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp must dip into the transfer market next month and bring in two new players, according to Rio Ferdinand.

Liverpool news: Virgil van Dijk should be one of two new signings in January, says Ferdinand

Ferdinand believes Liverpool need a new goalkeeper as well as strengthening in the centre of defence.

The Manchester United legend is impressed with the depth of the Reds’ squad, especially their young British talent.

And he believes they can go far in the knockout stages of the Champions League this season if they make just two more additions.

“I think they need a keeper as well (as a centre-back), I think a keeper would be a great addition to that squad as well,” he told BT Sport.

I think Van Dijk is the one that is gettable, yeah, I do think he is

“I think (Joe) Gomez at centre-half and Trent Alexander-Arnold playing at right-back and adding another centre-half to that, I think they would then have a real, real good team there.

“If you look at their bench today as well, there’s a lot of quality on that bench.

“(Daniel) Sturridge came off the bench, he’d be an England squad player, (Alex) Oxlade-Chamberlain how much did they pay? £35million, (Adam) Lallana to come back into that.”

Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk was a key target in the summer for Liverpool but Saints refused to sell the Dutchman.

Liverpool news: Klopp must sign a goalkeeper as well as Van Dijk, says Ferdinand

Ferdinand believes Southampton would be much more willing to allow Van Dijk to leave St Mary’s in January.

“I think he’s the one that is gettable, yeah, I do think he is,” he added.

“I’ve always liked him since his Celtic days and I think it has probably affected his form this season as well.

“They may have a better opportunity of getting him in this January window. Southampton, he was huge for them last season, this season, not as important I don’t think.”
