VARANASI : The Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha - SP students' wing -- on Thursday routed the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) - BJP students' wing -- to retain the students union president's office of Lal Bahadur Shastri Degree College in Mughalsarai, recently renamed after RSS ideologue Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay.

This was the third drubbing for ABVP this year. It had earlier lost in student union polls of Allahabad University and Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth Sanskrit University in Varanasi.

The vice-president's post also went to Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha. With the announcement of results, scores of SCS supporters gathered at the college gate and tried to enter the campus. When the police stopped them, they turned violent and tried to damage furniture while some of them also indulged in brick-batting.

The police used mild force to disperse them.
