Trouble for Gurugram’s Fortis Hospital is set to rise as Haryana Government has decided to write to National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) to cancel the accreditation of the hospital for overcharging the family of a seven-year old girl who died due to negligence of Fortis authorities.
The State Government had a day before announced to get an FIR registered against Fortis for criminal negligence that led to the death of Adya Singh, who was a dengue patient.
Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij, while talking to the mediapersons here on Thursday said that the government’s committee which submitted its inquiry report a day before had also recommended review of NABH accreditation given to Fortis, Gurugram.
The Government will be writing to NABH seeking cancellation of the accreditation given to the hospital in the wake of several irregularities found in Fortis in dealing with Adya’s case, Vij.
The Minister also ordered removal of Fortis Hospital from the panel of the State Government.
He said that on the basis of the report of investigation team constituted under the Additional Director General of the department, Dr Rajiv Vadhera, directions had already been given to register an FIR against the hospital and cancel the license of its blood bank.
Apart from this, the Haryana Urban Development Authority had been directed to find out possibilities of cancelling the land lease, Vij added.
The Government panel had indicted Fortis Hospital, Gurugram for grave negligence and unethical act in handling Adya’s case. The committee has alleged several irregularities, including refusal of appropriate ambulance service to the patient, not following leave against medical advice (LAMA) protocol, and overcharging.
Fortis Hospital, Gurugam had charged Dwarka resident Jayant Singh nearly Rs 16 lakh for 15 days when they had admitted their daughter Adya to the hospital for treatment of dengue. Adya was declared dead on September 15.
Vij has termed the incident as “a murder and not a death”.
Referring to Fortis overcharging case, Vij said that in the name of treatment, many private hospitals in the state are overcharging their patients, due to which, the common man has to go through mental as well as physical pain.
