Jalalabad: A trivial family dispute turned tragic when a disabled youth was allegedly beaten to death by his maternal uncle and others in the Jalalabad town of Fazilka district on Wednesday night.

In her statement to the police, Renu Bala, wife of victim Ashwani Narang alias Kali, said her husband was a partner with his maternal uncle in a furniture business.

She said the duo was reportedly not happy with the business, which led to strained relationship between them. She alleged that on Wednesday night, around a dozen men forcefully entered their house and started ransacking it following which her husband intervened but he was badly thrashed by the assailants.

An injured Ashwani was taken to local civil hospital and as his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College in Faridkot where he succumbed to the injuries.

When contacted, Jalalabad City SHO Abhinav Chauhan said the police had started investigations in the incident and accused would be arrested soon.
