FADE TO SILENCE UPDATE:

THQ NORDIC UPDATE 1:

The announcement from THQ Nordic has leaked earlier than planned - and it wasn't Darksiders III or Biomutant after all.

The game's publisher was due to show off a brand new game for the first time at the Game Awards.

That game is called Fade to Silence, developed by Black Forest Games, and will come to Steam Early Access on December 14.

The survival horror title will put players in the “the cold and deadly world of an apocalyptic winter” according to its Steam page.

In the game, you take on the role of Ash, a natural leader tormented by what this world has done to him.

You'll need to fight for survival whilst also trying to build a new base in this harsh world. The weather system will be integral to the game.

“The dynamic weather system adds to the immersion of survival in a cold, corrupted world,” the game’s description reads.

“Survival depends on how well the players read weather patterns, and if they come to the right conclusion - look for shelter or press home.

"The dynamic snow displacement leaves a realistic path by both player character and NPC. This telltale sign will tell you regions where it is good to hunt and regions where monsters are roaming.”

ORIGINAL STORY:

The Game Awards 2017 are finally here and PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and PC gamers are all counting down with just a few more hours to go before the huge event begins.

The annual event - hosted by Geoff Keighley - not only celebrates the best of video gaming talent from the past year, but also serves as a showcase for developers and publishers to show off their newest projects.

The show will be live from Thursday, December 7 at 5:30pm PT / 8:30pm ET - which means we can watch it, in the UK, at Friday, December 8 at 1:30am UK / 12:30pm AET.

The event is expected to be even more packed than in previous years, with Keighley himself teasing that The Game Awards 2017 will have 'the biggest world premiere lineup yet'.

This means that the show this year will likely beat 2012's biggest line-up to date. And for reference, the 2012 show had 12 reveals, so we're expecting big things.

Keighley has also confirmed that at least two of these announcements will unveil "two brand-new game worlds that no one has ever seen before".

So you can expect the show to potentially be on the same level as the likes of a Gamescom or E3 presser - these aren't just little titles: The Game Awards traditionally hosts massive, triple-A reveals.

We know, for example, that we're definitely going to get a trailer for PUBG, likewise, Sea of Thieves and Metro Exodus are confirmed to appear in addition to a reveal for Fortnite's new game mode.

Rumours abound that we'll be seeing new information on Death Stranding - thanks to the confirmed appearance of Hideo Kojima, Norman Reedus and Guillermo Del Toro at the event - and we may even get a release date for upcoming PS4 exclusive God of War, too.

That's just the tip of the iceberg of what could be unveiled - more suggestions can be found in the gallery below - but for this page right here, we'll be updating it with information exclusively about Final Fantasy 7, should anything be revealed at the show.

Geoff Keighley has confirmed the attendance of THQ Nordic at the event, meaning we're likely to see either Biomutant or Darksiders III at the show.

However, if you pair the announcement of THQ Nordic's presence at the show with Keighley's comments about 'new game worlds' being shown, we think it's highly likely that Darksiders III will get a portion of the attention tonight.

We believe this because aside from a quick glimpse at some tone-setting video teasers for the game, we haven't really seen much about it.

Biomutant, on the other hand, has already had a few videos released detailing its world and setting.

That said, THQ Nordic's site also lists another game as in development - so we could well see a world first relating to this title, too.

There's also some interesting timing on the reveal of the game.

This month has seen Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition release as one of the free games on Sony's PS Plus service.

We've seen situations in the past where games released as part of the promotion have tied into announcements for newer games in the franchise - it is a great way of promoting a series and giving players something to enjoy at the same time, at least.

Here's Sony's announcement of this months offering:

"Well, here we are folks, it’s very nearly that time of year again and with only one month of the year to go, we hope that 2017 has been good to you and that you’ve got some well-earned downtime to look forward to." explained the new PlayStation blog post, before revealing the new titles players can enjoy with some of that free time.

In addition to the leaked two, PlayStation Plus subscribers can also pick up the following games this December:

• Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition (PS4)
• Kung Fu Panda: Showdown of the Legendary Legends (PS4)
• Until Dawn: Rush of Blood (PS Plus bonus – PS VR Required)
• That’s You! (PS Plus bonus – PlayLink)
• Xblaze Lost: Memories (PS3)
• Syberia Collection (PS3)
• Forma 8 (PS Vita & PS4)
• Wanted Corp (PS Vita)

The games are available to download now.
