The three Khans of Bollywood – Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan have been dominating and ruling the Bollywood for many years. But unfortunately, 2017 has turned out to be a disappointment for them. While SRK and Salman gave box office duds with Jab Harry Met Sejal and Tubelight. Aamir’s Secret Superstar became sleeper hit but still performed below expectations. The only film which managed to perform to some extent as per Khan’s standard was Raees.
On the other hand, this year we saw many Hollywood releases, which dominated Bollywood films at the box office. Not one or two, but there were six Hollywood superheroes films, which had hit the screens – Wonder Woman, Justice League, Thor: Ragnarok, Spiderman: Homecoming, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Logan. While the maximum of these films performed very well at the box office, but there is one thing which will definitely cheer you if you are a hardcore Bollywood or a Khan fan.
The cumulative business of these Hollywood superhero films is Rs 216.21 crore, which is way less compared to even the total collections of Khans flop films at the box office. The total business of Jab Harry Met Sejal, Tubelight, Secret Superstar and Raees is 384.41 crore. The interesting fact about this is that none of these films are blockbusters or even hits, in fact, all have underperformed at the box office. But still, they have managed to surpass the business of highly hyped superhero films at the Indian box office. With this fact, we have noticed that, though how much Hollywood becomes big in India, it will find difficult to stand in front of Khans. The point which should be taken into consideration is that Hollywood superheroes films are primarily targeted to multiplexes in metro cities while the majority of the Khans films are catered to both the classes – mass centres and multiplexes.
In 2018, there are big Hollywood superheroes films like Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2, Wonder Woman 2 and Black Panther, but don’t worry Bollywood fans, Aamir, Salman and SRK are also coming to entertain you with Thugs of Hindostan, Race 3 and untitled Dwarf film.
