The Left alliance party has clinched three parliamentary seats under First-Past-the-Post system on Friday for which ballots were cast in the first phase of the parliamentary and provincial assembly polls.
Voting opens for Nepal’s second phase of polls
The Opposition CPN-UML secured two seats whereas the contender of its supporter CPN-Maoist Centre beat its main competitor Nepali Congress candidate, authorities stated on Friday.
CPN-UML nominee from Manang district in North-West Nepal Polden Chhopang Gurng triumph the polls by beating his closest contender Tek Bahadur Gurung of the Nepali Congress, they added.
CPN-UML contender Prem Prasad Tulachan was announced triumphant from mountainous Mustang district who overpowered his Nepali Congress opponent Romi Gauchan, they affirmed.
Kamala Rokka of the CPN-Maoist Centre secured the polls from Rukum district in western Nepal by beating his closest opponent Hari Shanker Garti of the Nepali Congress.
Overall 1,663 nominees competed for the Parliamentary seats whereas 2,819 were in fight for the Provincial Assemblies seats in the historic polls that many believe will provide the much-required political constancy to the Himalayan nation.
The House of Representatives comprises of 275 members, among which 165 would be chosen directly under the First-Past-the- Post system whereas leftover 110 will be elected via Proportional Representation system.
Polling for 32 districts were conducted on November 26 in the first phase.
