Robert Kubica F1 return will let me do this - Nico Rosberg

ROBERT KUBICA’s return to F1 will allow manager Nico Rosberg to re-live his racing days.

Rosberg retired from F1 just days after winning the 2016 F1 World Drivers’ Championship, when he edged out Lewis Hamilton in Abu Dhabi.

The German, 32, stayed away from the sport in the early part of 2017 but was seen much more around the circuit later in the year and is now part of the team negotiating Kubica’s return to F1.

The Pole, who has not raced in the series since a 2011 rallying crash that left him with a severely damaged right arm, has tested for Renault this year and is currently being evaluated by Williams to replace Felipe Massa.

And Rosberg, who raced for Williams for four years before joining Mercedes in 2010, believes working closely with Kubica could be the secret to his future happiness.

“Being a manager, having a couple of drivers [could make me happy],” Rosberg told the BBC.

“Because that’s something I can see with Kubica, that I enjoy that because you can really experience similar emotions to when you’re driving yourself.

“That’s cool because the emotions you have when you win and have success as a driver are so intense.

“It’s not easy to find that so quickly elsewhere in life.

“But there’s an opportunity if you work with other drivers and support them and become part of their team to relive some of those emotions.

“That could be something in the longer term.”

Rosberg has spent his first 12 months out of racing filling out his “bucket list”.

That has included meeting Roger Federer as well as watching him at Wimbledon from the best seats in the house.

“I’m a big fan of Federer of course and then finally Royal Box, Centre Court…wow!” Rosberg added.

“It was magical and legendary to watch Federer on his way to his eighth title which is one of the biggest achievements the sport world has ever seen.

“You’re in awe of what you see, the English etiquette and the peacefulness.”
