The driver of a tanker carrying inflammable substance was charred to death when his vehicle skidded off the road and caught fire on National highway 91 here, police said today.
Circle Officer Raghvendra Kumar Mishra said the incident occurred last night on NH-91 near Sikandrabad by-pass.
The tanker skidded off the road and fell into a ditch after which it caught fire. As the tanker driver got stuck in the vehicle, he was charred to death in the vehicle, Mishra said.
Vehicular traffic on the National Highway had to be stopped for three hours as there were serial explosions following its overturning.
The tanker driver and the vehicle are yet to be identified, the officer said.
