Sivakarthikeyan’s last outing Remo opened to a great response at the box office and it will be interesting to see how Velaikkaran fares considering the huge pre-release buzz for the film directed by Mohan Raja, who delivered a commercially and critically fantastic film in Thani Oruvan two years back with Jayam Ravi, Nayanthara and Arvind Swami as leads. The motion poster of Velaikkaran has touched a whopping one million views on YouTube and the film’s album has fetched overwhelming reviews from music buffs. The album composed by Anirudh Ravichander was launched recently in Chennai in a grand function at ITC Grand Chola hotel where the team honored some of the deserving workers from various walks of life.
Recalling how he approached Mohan Raja, Sivakarthikeyan had said at the audio launch, “Thani Oruvan was unanimously liked by everyone. I saw the film twice and I called Mohan Raja sir, and Jayam Ravi sir to congratulate them. Mohan Raja sir ended the call with the statement “we shall meet soon”. I felt like working in a movie with him but was slightly hesitant to ask. Also, I was apprehensive about doing a serious role. Because apart from Ethir Neechal I have not done any emotional movies. I somehow gathered the courage to convey my wish to work with him. Before that, I have not approached any director to ask for collaboration. I was choosing from the scripts that come my way.” Produced by RD Raja’s 24 AM Studios, Velaikkaran features Nayanthara as the lead heroine. Fahadh Faasil makes foray into Kollywood in the role of an antagonist.
