Thane man booked for blackmailing ex-fiancée

Surat: A man from Thane in Maharashtra and his two family members were booked on Wednesday for allegedly harassing ex-fiancee, a resident of Dindoli. The woman had got engaged to the man, who later broke the engagement, but continued to harass her using her intimate photos.

Bharat Solate, a resident of Amey Society in Kharigav of Kalva in Thane, his mother Rajni and brother Anurag were booked for alleged harassment of 24-year-old woman. Solate had threatened the woman that he will circulate her objectionable photos on social media and ensure that she doesn't find another person to marry.

In her complaint, the woman alleged that around five months ago she got engaged to Solate, an engineer. It was an arranged relationship. She alleged that Solate used to ask her to send intimate photos over mobile phone.

She initially sent a few, but later she stopped after which Solate got angry with her and threatened to break the engagement, she alleged.

Solate also threatened the woman that he would marry his girlfriend if she does not send her intimate photos.

The accused allegedly ended the relationship by taking her other family members in confidence. But he later threatened the woman that he would circulate her intimate photos on social media.

Preliminary probe revealed the woman discontinued the relationship as she was tired of Solate's demands. The woman's family was also upset with Solate since they did not pay them the money spent on engagement and marriage preparation, the police said. tnn
