A 29-year-old man was arrested for allegedly decamping with Rs 8 lakh his employer had given him to deposit in a bank, police said today.
On December 4, one Vikas Kumar approached the Nehru Place metro police station with a complaint, they said.
Kumar, a manager with a restaurant cum bar, gave Rs 8 lakh to Jiwan Thapa, who worked as a servant at the restaurant to deposit it in a bank, the police said.
He alleged that Thapa fled with the amount without depositing it in the bank, they said.
Various teams were constituted to trace the accused, the police said.
On the basis of a tip-off, Thapa was nabbed from Nanpara in Bahrain while trying to go towards Nepal on December 6, Pankaj Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro), said.
The stolen amount was recovered from him, he said.
Thapa had left his home in Nepal 13 years ago. Since then he has been living in Delhi on rent, the DCP said.
Later, to meet his growing expenses, he decided to commit the crime and wanted to escape to Nepal for doing business by using the money, he added.
