FATEHGARH SAHIB: A 22-year-old youth from Mandi Gobindgarh town of Fatehgarh Sahib district was arrested for raping a four-year-old girl. The victim was admitted to the civil hospital in the town for treatment while the police had nabbed the accused who was caught red-handed by the victim's mother.
The accused, a neighbour of the survivor, was known to her family members for a long time. The police claimed that accused hailed from Bihar and worked as a labourer. Police added that the accused was a married man with two children. The survivor's family approached the civil hospital on late Wednesday evening immediately after the accused raped her.
A case against the accused has been registered for rape and under the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Mandi Gobindgarh police station.
The family of the survivor revealed that the accused entered the house and started playing with the child. "We did not give much attention to the accused as he usually played with our children. On Wednesday night I heard my child crying and her clothes were drenched in blood. I screamed and other members of the family came and nabbed the accused. We immediately took the girl to the hospital and the matter was reported to the police," said the girl's mother.
Mandi Gobindgarh station house officer (SHO) Talwinder Singh said, "The child is admitted to the hospital and we have arrested the accused. He has his own children of the same age as the girl he raped. Both the survivor's family and the accused are migrant labourers. The case has been registered on the complaint of the girl's father. The medical examination of the girl has been done and the reports are awaited."
