UAE dominate opening day

Dubai: The opening day of the second International Rythmic Gymnastic — DuGym — was dominated by UAE gymnasts on Thursday.

Adel Dojcsak, Malak Khalaf and Tia Iskander led the UAE charge with 1-2-3 finish in the all -round 2005 Category D with the scores of 6.45, 5.65 and 5.3 respectively.

Kahlaf and Iskander finished 1-2 in the balls event while Dojcsak claimed first position in the club event.

Gaia Hanna finished third in hoops while Perla Al Chammas and Lamees Hadi bagged first and second position respectively.

Simran Gupte of the UAE also claimed the top prize in the Ribbon event of 2005 Category D.

Ulyanova Kamilla of Russia, Abduzhalilova Jasmin of Kazakhstan claimed first and second positions to be followed by Lara Kirgiz of the UAE in the free hand event of 2009 Category D.

Jana Nabulsi of the UAE also claimed the first position with a score of 8.3 in the all-round 2006 Category C to be followed by Sara Sabbah of Kuwait and Dana El Toukhy of the UAE in the second and third position.

Earlier, the DuGym Cup 2017 got off in style in a glittering opening ceremony. A total of 17 countries, 62 teams and 450 gymnasts are taking part in the in the second edition of the event.

Being the most anticipated gymnastics event of the year; competitions are being held at an individual and group level.

Participants have varied options in skill display that include Free Hand, Rope, Ball, Hoop as well as styles of their choice and were judged by the legendary and only individual rhythmic gymnast in history to win two Olympic all-around gold medals Evgenia Kanaeva.

A highlight of the competition is a special Master Class arranged with Salome Pazhava – all-round bronze medallist at the FIG World Cup series, in 2016.

The competition has in store a display of mesmerising acts in Rhythmic Gymnastics put together by gymnasts from several parts of the world.
