PUNE: A 23-year-old autorickshaw driver was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter at his residence in Pimple Gurav on November 30.
The incident occurred in the evening when the mother of the child was in the bathroom. "When she came out, she was shocked to see her husband sexually assaulting the daughter," an officer from the Sangvi police said.
When the woman reprimanded her husband, he got furious and started beating her up. "He also threatened her of dire consequences if she approached the police or told anyone about the incident," the officer said, adding that the suspect did not even allow his wife to take the child to a doctor.
The woman lodged a police complaint against the suspect when he tried to rape the child again on Wednesday.
Soon after receiving the complaint, the Sangvi police arrested the man under sections 376 (F) (rape by a relative), (i) (raping a minor) (n) (commits rape repeatedly on the same woman), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code and the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
"We have sent the girl to a hospital for medical check-up," the officer added.
