GHAZIABAD: A biker in his mid-20s was killed after being hit by a truck in Ghaziabad on Wednesday. The victim, Rahul Singh, lived in Kotla village of Mayur Vihar I in Delhi.
The accident occurred around 9am near Bhopura crossing on Loni Road in Ghaziabad.
Police have seized the truck laden with LPG cylinders while its driver fled from the spot after the accident.
"Both the biker and the truck was going towards Delhi. The truck hit the bike from the back and dragged it for around 10 feet before coming to a stop. The biker was killed on the spot despite having a helmet on," said local police outpost in-charge Pushpraj Kushwaha.
Police said they ascertained the identity of the biker after they answered a call on his mobile phone and verified his details with the caller.
According to police, Singh's family resides in Varanasi while he lived in a rented accommodation in Delhi. Police was unable to ascertain where he was coming from when he met the accident.
Police said an FIR pertaining to rash driving and causing death due to negligence will be registered after they receive a formal complaint.
The family members of the victim were informed by cops and his body has been preserved in Hindon mortuary.
"A postmortem will be conducted after the family reaches the city. Efforts are underway to nab the absconding truck driver," said a police official.
