Punjab Police arrests alleged ISI agent involved in exchange of info with Pak-based handlers

NEW DELHI: Acting on a tip-off given by a military intelligence unit in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab Police has arrested an alleged ISI agent who had been passing on information to his Pak-based handlers.

The accused has been identified as Gurmukh Singh alias Gopi from Mattewal area. A team led by SHO Mukhtiyar singh from Batala district police arrested the accused and recovered two mobile phones, a passport and several photographs of movements pertaining to the Indian Army.

An FIR under sections of the officials secrets Act and criminal conspiracy has been registered and police are probing if Gopi was in touch with other agents in India as well.


After examining the documents and questioning the suspect, the cops said that the suspect had made two visits to Pakistan in 2009 and 2012 as part of a religious group (Jattha).


During his second visit, the individual came in touch with an ISI handler who lured him into providing information pertaining to movement and deployment of the Indian Army.


The individual remained in contact with the handler from 2012 onwards over Facebook and WhatsApp. The documents were passed on through social network itself.


The cops have claimed that the the suspect had recently been asking for weapons and money from the handler in lieu of the information provided.
