The Crown season 2 release date: When does it start on Netflix? How to watch online

THE CROWN season 2 will be dropping on Netflix tomorrow but when exactly does series 2 start and how can you watch it online? Here is everything you need to know.

When does The Crown season 2 air on Netflix?

Netflix has confirmed The Crown season two will air on Netflix on Friday, December 8.

The Crown season two will be made available on the streaming platform in its entirety.

Like lots of other Netflix originals, The Crown season two will drop at midnight in America and at 8am in Britain.

There will be a total of 10 episodes for fans to binge watch in one go, season one comprised of a similar number of instalments.

The Crown will pick up after the events of season one which dealt with the explosive affair between the Queen’s sister Princess Margaret (played by Vanessa Kirby) and RAF Captain Peter Townsend (Ben Miles).

Claire Foy and Matt Smith will be returning to their roles as the Queen and Prince Philip respectively.

In a trailer for The Crown season two, attention appears to have turned to the royal marriage amid suggestions of an affair.

Will Netflix make The Crown season 3?

Yes, is the simple answer. The Crown will be back for a third season, however there will be new actors taking on the roles of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

Olivia Colman has been confirmed to take over the part of Queen Elizabeth II from Foy, who will be departing at the end of this season having played the role for two years.

Shortly after the news was announced, the 43-year-old Broadchurch star revealed her nerves about taking on the mantle of the reigning monarch.

Speaking to the Radio Times, Colman said: “[I’m] just full of fear because you don’t want to be the one who screws it up. She’s [Foy] lovely and she said I can call her anytime.”

It’s not yet been announced who will be replacing Doctor Who star Smith, 35.

But Colman expressed an interest for her Broadchurch co-star and fellow former Time Lord David Tennant to join the Netflix hit.

The controversial figure of Camilla Parker Bowles will be appearing in The Crown season three

Earlier this year The Crown’s executive producer Suzanne Mackie confirmed that creator Peter Morgan would be introducing a fictionalised version of the divisive figure.

"Peter is already talking about the most wonderful things. We start meeting Camilla Parker Bowles in season three," she said at the Radio Times and BFI Festival.

"We have to be honest, season three and four are being mapped out and the closer the history comes – I now can say, ‘God, I know exactly what I was feeling when that happened, I remember that and I remember this.’ That’s so exciting," she explained.

Mackie added: “But there’s a responsibility to it that you ought to do it properly and there’s where the weight comes, not from seven years but we’ve got to keep being great."

The Crown season 2 will be available on Netflix on Friday, December 8.
