UAE- TRA Director-General highlights Arab efforts in communications as role model

CAIRO, 7th December, 2017 (WAM) -- The UAE, represented by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), participated in the 21st Session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Communication and Information, which concluded yesterday in Cairo, Egypt, with the participation of Ministers of Communications of Arab countries or their representatives.

The TRA delegation was led by Director-General Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori. During the meeting Egypt assumed the chairmanship of the session, as the successor of the UAE.

In his speech during the meeting, Al Mansoori said, "The Arab efforts within the communications framework can be considered a model for joint action aimed at achieving regional objectives to serve societies and peoples of the region. This has been reflected in many regional frameworks and structures such as the AREGNET, which is chaired by the UAE, and which we had the honor to host its 15th meeting last September. We look forward to continuing the work in a team spirit, to realise our aspirations that the telecom sector will be the most powerful engine for sustainable development in our countries, and for the benefit of our future generations."

The meeting discussed the results of the meetings of the specialised technical teams in the fields of ICT and post, through the results of the 33rd meeting of the Arab Permanent Post Committee, and the 41st meeting of the Arab Permanent ICT Committee. The meeting indicated to the follow-up of the meetings of the Arab work group tasked to prepare for the PP18, which is the highest decision-making authority in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The participant in the meeting highlighted the importance of Arab coordination, the consolidation of positions and the exchange of views with other regional groups in order to achieve maximum benefit of holding a conference in an Arab country, and to ensure that the results of the conference serve the objectives and strategies of the region in the field of ICT.

The UAE will host the next session of ITU PP-18, in Dubai, from 29th October to 16th November, 2018 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, with representatives from 193 countries.
