NOIDA: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Wednesday demanded an explanation from Noida Authority as to why hot mix plants are still being used at various construction sites in the city even when it is banned by the court in August 2015.
This came during an ongoing hearing of an appeal by residents of Sector 76.
A principal bench of the NGT headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar has asked the counsel representing the Noida Authority to file an explanation as to how the plants are still operating illegally in the city.
The court has been hearing a petition filed by residents of Sector 76 who had appealed with the green court in October regarding high pollution because of construction in the new sectors.
Dhananjay Kumar Singh, the applicant of the case at the green court, said, "We moved the NGT because despite a high level of pollution, the builders in the area were flouting green rules pertaining to construction. After our appeal, the court has reinstated some of the practises of pollution control at construction sites. However at various spots, there is still a lot of dust, construction material is not covered and sprinkling of water on roads is not being done properly."
With a lot of under-construction projects in Sector 76, the Authority had pulled up several builders in November for flouting ministry of environment and forest (MoEF) rules. The residents have been providing the court with visual evidence of the negligence by the builders in containing pollution caused by construction.
Wednesday's order came from the court after the applicants produced evidence of hot mix plants operating in sectors 142 and 143. They also submitted videos of pollution in Sector 74.
The NGT will hear the case again on Thursday where the Noida Authority will have to submit their responses to the court's queries. "Wednesday was the tenth hearing of our case within a span of one and half months of our appeal. We are expecting an order from the court soon," Dhananjay Kumar Singh said.
